Team GB star Mo Farah admits that missing out on a top-three award at this year's Sports Personality of the Year event was difficult to get his head around.

Team GB distance runner Mo Farah has admitted that missing out on a trophy at this year's Sports Personality of the Year awards was difficult to get his head around.

Sir Bradley Wiggins received the top honour at the BBC showpiece event earlier this month, while Jessica Ennis and Andy Murray finished second and third respectively.

Farah, who claimed third spot in 2011 on the back of his 5,000-metre gold medal at the World Championships in Daegu, only ranked fourth this time around, despite winning two gold medals at the London Olympic Games.

"This year I had achieved the most I possibly could and didn't even get third again, let alone a higher spot," Farah told The Sun. "I mean, there's nothing more I could have done."

Farah was made a CBE in the New Year Honours earlier this week.
