Reeva Steenkamp's mother June: 'We don't want revenge against Oscar Pistorius'

Reeva Steenkamp's mother June says that the family are "very settled" with Oscar Pistorius's five-year prison sentence for killing her daughter.

Reeva Steenkamp's mother June believes that justice has not been done following Oscar Pistorius's culpable homicide verdict for killing her daughter, but is "settled" with the five-year prison sentence.

The six-time Paralympic champion was handed the jail term at the High Court in Pretoria on Tuesday, but there are suggestions that only 10 months will be spent behind bars.

The 27-year-old's defence team has claimed that Pistorius will serve a sixth of his sentence in prison and the remainder will be under house arrest.

The prosecution wanted Pistorius to be found guilty of premeditated murder, but Judge Thokozile Masipa believed the Paralympian when he claimed that he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder when he fired four gunshots through a toilet door at his home in the early hours of Valentine's Day last year.

In an interview with Good Morning Britain, June Steenkamp said: "We may not feel that justice has been done but we've just got to accept what the judge decided, that's the law.

"We're very settled with the sentence. He's got to pay for what he's done. It's not that we want vengeance or anything or him to suffer with his disabilities, but at the same time we feel satisfied that he will realise now that you can't go around doing things like that."

Pistorius's defence team are not expected to appeal the sentence.
