Former Cuba leader Fidel Castro has reportedly written to Argentine football legend Diego Maradona to deny reports that he has died.
The 88-year-old has not been seen or heard for almost three months, which has raised questions over the politician's health.
However, according to TV network Telesur, Castro sent a four-page letter to the 1986 World Cup winner to rubbish the reports and insist that he is 'alive and well'.
The TV station showed a clip of Maradona holding up a letter signed by Castro, who is believed to have written about global oil consumption and the release of three Cuban agents by the United States.
"I'm very happy to know he's well," The Independent quotes Maradona as saying.
Castro, who stepped down as Cuba president in 2006, has not made a public appearance for over a year.
