Nico Rosberg: 'I thought I had Spain pole position'

Nico Rosberg is surprised that he didn't take pole position at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Nico Rosberg has admitted that he thought he had done enough to snatch pole position away from Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton for Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix.

The German was faster than Hamilton in both Q1 and Q2, but lost out to the Briton in the final part of qualifying by 0.168 seconds and, afterwards, Rosberg couldn't hide his disappointment.

He told reporters: "I was surprised because my lap was good and I thought I had it.

"He was quick all along, but just not putting in the laptimes that he would be able to do.

"But I did think my lap was good enough and I was surprised and disappointed that he beat me to it."

Rosberg carries a four-point lead in the drivers' standings going into Sunday's race.
