Lewis Hamilton 'let off hook by Mercedes following Nico Rosberg retirement'

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton will reportedly be let off the hook for his decision to ignore technical chief Paddy Lowe's calls to speed during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton will evade any action for defying team bosses in Abu Dhabi following the shock retirement of Nico Rosberg, according to a report.

Mercedes are on the lookout for a driver to replace Rosberg, who stunned the world of F1 on Friday afternoon by announcing that he would step aside from the sport just five days after winning his maiden title.

It is claimed by The Sun that Mercedes chiefs are unwilling to risk aggravating remaining star driver Hamilton, with the Englishman due to be questioned at the team's HQ at Brackley over his decision to ignore technical director Paddy Lowe's calls to speed up during the season's final race in the Middle East.

The report suggests that Hamilton will instead be let off the hook, but he is unlikely to be given any say in who joins him ahead of next term's first race in Melbourne on March 26.
