Nico Rosberg will 'never' consider Formula 1 return following shock retirement

Nico Rosberg says that he will never consider returning to Formula 1 after announcing his shock retirement just five days after being crowned world champion.

Nico Rosberg has claimed that he will never consider returning to Formula 1 after announcing his shock retirement just five days after winning the world championship.

The 31-year-old took the title in Abu Dhabi, beating his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton to the crown by finishing in second place in the final grand prix of the season.

The German, who had never before won the title, has opted to go out on a high after spending 10 years in the sport - winning 23 races and taking 57 podiums.

During an FIA news conference, which was broadcast live on Facebook, Rosberg was asked if he would ever consider coming back to the sport, to which he replied: "Definitely not - finished. The end! My next step is to be a dad and a husband for a while, a step I'm very much looking forward to."

Rosberg added: "I've achieved what I have set out for. It's incredible how clear it is. You've seen my video when I was six years old. That was my dream already in those days. I've done it, I'm so happy and at the same time it was a very, very tough year."

Rosberg spent three years with Williams before joining Mercedes in 2010.
