Sunderland's Danny Rose could sit out of Newcastle United battle

Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill says that full-back Danny Rose will not be included in the Black Cats' lineup against Newcastle United if he is not in the right frame of mind.

Sunderland full-back Danny Rose may not be selected for the Black Cats' Tyne-Wear derby against Newcastle United this weekend if his mind is not focused on football, according to manager Martin O'Neill.

The 22-year-old, who is on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, was the subject of alleged racial abuse during the England Under-21s' 1-0 win over Serbia on Tuesday.

"I will speak to Danny first about it," said O'Neill. "I will give him a day or two to let things die down. If they do, I'll let him try to start focusing his mind on the game. That would be the time to speak with him.

"I am sure that he would want to play. I am sure at some stage he will take it in his stride. But I want to point out that everyone at the club is very much on his side."

Meanwhile, Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand and brother Rio are reportedly expected to boycott the 'Kick It Out' campaign this weekend.
