Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Jan Vertonghen reserves special praise for his side's recent defensive performances following their 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Jan Vertonghen has praised his side's recent defensive performances following their clean sheet in the 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Spurs have now prevented the opposition from scoring in four of their last five Premier League games, helping the club extend their unbeaten run across all competitions to 17 matches.

Vertonghen returned to the starting lineup for the latest Wembley win over the Terriers, and he admitted that his side were disappointed to have only won by two goals considering their dominance.

"It's what we've been saying and working on, being wary of the counter-attack, and I think we've been doing that very well in the last couple of months," he told the club's official website.

"We've been defending very well, even one-on-one. Defensively it was another good performance. It was very good from both sides on the pitch (attacking and defending). It was a good performance like we've been playing in the last few weeks.

"We were a bit unlucky, we could have scored many goals. With just two, we feel a bit sad. Of course, we want to score more goals, but we are happy to get three points."

Spurs will now turn their attention to Wednesday's Champions League second leg against Juventus at Wembley.
