Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino has hailed his side's victory over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday as a "massive three points".

Ahmed Hegazi gave West Brom the perfect start with a goal in the fifth minute, but Pellegrino's team responded with three unanswered goals that were enough to stop Salomon Rondon's late strike from threatening the victory.

Pellegrino has said that the win, which lifted the Saints into 14th in the Premier League, will give the players much-needed confidence.

"It's massive for us the three points, especially for belief and confidence for the players," the Argentine told Sky Sports News. "Most of my players now are fit and physically ready.

"We changed a few players from midweek and I think we showed a good level. But it's just one game, we still have to do a lot of things. We've got many important games in front, and we started today.

"We have to think game by game because every single week everything can change, but we need to improve our level on the pitch. The points are the consequence of our performance."

Southampton meet Liverpool in a Premier League encounter next Sunday.
