Sevilla 'interested in Mikel Merino'

Sevilla reportedly join the race for Newcastle United midfielder Mikel Merino, who has been linked with a number of La Liga clubs.

Sevilla have reportedly joined the race for Newcastle United midfielder Mikel Merino.

The 22-year-old only joined Newcastle on a permanent deal from Borussia Dortmund in the latter stages of 2017, but his future in the Premier League has been called into question.

Real Sociedad are said to have tabled a £10.5m bid for the Spaniard as they look to beat the likes of Villarreal, Real Betis and Athletic Bilbao to his signature.

However, according to ABC de Sevilla, Sevilla are also very much in the hunt for a player who featured in 24 of Newcastle's 38 Premier League matches during the 2017-18 campaign.

Merino started his professional career with Spanish outfit Osasuna - featuring on 67 occasions for the Spanish outfit before joining Dortmund in 2016.
