Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy is struggling with a hamstring strain ahead of the team's upcoming matches against Scotland and the USA.

Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy has emerged as an injury doubt for the team's upcoming matches against Scotland and the USA.

The 23-year-old is suffering with a hamstring strain that he picked up during Everton's 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Sunday.

McCarthy is due to undergo a fitness assessment when he meets up with his international teammates tonight.

Meanwhile, Stoke City defender Marc Wilson has been forced to withdraw from the squad after tearing his hamstring while helping Stoke City beat Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend.

Ireland travel to Glasgow to face Scotland in a Euro 2016 qualifier on Friday before hosting the USA in a friendly four days later.
