Granada rescue late draw against Real Sociedad

Granada strike deep into stoppage time of the second half to rescue a 1-1 draw against Europa League-chasing Real Sociedad this evening.

Real Sociedad have been forced to wait another week at least to secure a Europa League spot for next season, having conceded a 93rd-minute equaliser to draw 1-1 with Granada this evening.

The hosts almost took the lead after just eight minutes when Markel Bergara went for goal direct from a free kick, only to see his effort come back off the post.

They came close again moments later as Haris Seferovic rose highest inside the area to plant a header narrowly past the post when he should have done better.

Sergio Canales was the next to threaten for Sociedad as he fired wide from inside the area, while the Spanish midfielder came even closer with just under 10 minutes to go in the half as he crashed an effort against the crossbar.

The hosts almost broke the deadlock once again with just three minutes left of the first half, but Seferovic put a tame effort into the arms of Orestis Karnezis.

Sociedad continued where they left off at the start of the second half, this time coming close through Inigo Martinez, who nodded an effort just over.

Granada's first real opening of the match came just under 10 minutes after the restart when Youssef El Arabi latched on to a cross inside the box, only to put his effort over the top.

The visitors' task got even harder moments later as Recio was shown a second yellow card to receive his marching orders in the 54th minute.

However, Sociedad soon joined them in having just 10 men on the field, with Mikel Gonzalez being given a straight red card for a rash challenge.

Granada almost nicked the opening goal in the 73rd minute when Piti produced a snap shot from inside the box, only to see his effort come back off the post.

The deadlock was finally broken just five minutes later as Sociedad took the lead through Carlos Vela, who fired an effort past the keeper having been found by Alberto de la Bella.

They were denied all three points deep into second-half stoppage time, however, when Odion Ighalo put his first-time effort into the bottom corner from inside the area.
