Player Ratings: Atletico Madrid 1-1 Real Madrid

Sports Mole takes a closer look at how each player performed during Atletico Madrid's 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in Sunday's La Liga match.

Real Madrid missed the chance to move to the top of the La Liga table after drawing 1-1 with Atletico Madrid in Sunday's Madrid derby at the Vicente Calderon.

Karim Benzema sent the visitors into a ninth-minute lead and when Antoine Griezmann missed from the penalty spot in the first period, it appeared that the French striker's effort would be enough to claim all the points.

Luciano Vietto scored his first Atletico goal to level the scores in the 83rd minute, however, with that strike enough to secure Diego Simeone's side a share of the spoils in Madrid.

Here, Sports Mole has taken a closer look at how each player performed on the night.

ATLETICO

Goal

Jan Oblak: In truth, had his feet up for much of the match. Could do nothing with Benzema's goal and only faced one more attempt. A strangely comfortable night for the Slovenian goalkeeper. (6/10)

Defence

Juanfran: Got forward more in the second half after a difficult first period, but the Spaniard's radar was not on point in Madrid. Nothing much wrong, but has played better this season. (6/10)

Diego Godin: No real surprise that the centre-back was one of six Atletico players to pick up a booking. Did a good job of stifling Cristiano Ronaldo for long stages of the contest. (7/10)

Jose Gimenez: Was a touch fortunate not to pick up a booking following some meaty challenges, but the 20-year-old again had a solid game alongside his fellow Uruguayan centre-back. (7/10)

Filipe Luis: Usually such a threat in wide positions, but the Brazilian struggled to make his mark in the final third. That said, did a good job of keeping Isco quiet for long spells in Madrid. (6/10)

Midfield

Tiago: Does not venture forward on too many occasions anymore, but won Atletico's penalty from Ramos. Hardly conceded possession in the second half as he dictated play from a deep area. (7/10)

Gabi: Neat and tidy in possession and kept the ball moving during Atletico's period of domination. Nothing spectacular, but did what was needed for his teammates. (7/10)

Oliver Torres: Showed nice ability in possession of the ball, but was guilty of a couple of mis-timed tackles and Diego Simeone took the decision to replace the youngster at the interval. (6/10)

Attack

Antoine Griezmann: Has been excellent in the early stages of the season, but missed a first-half penalty here. That said, the Frenchman played a key role in Vietto's leveller late on. (6/10)

Fernando Torres: Played his part in Atletico's penalty after good closing down, but did not have much luck in front of goal and was replaced by Jackson Martinez just past the hour mark. (6/10)

Angel Correa: Had a bright first half and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions, but some rash challenges while on a yellow worried Simeone and he was replaced in the 58th minute. (6/10)

Substitutes

Yannick Ferreira Carrasco: Has struggled to make an impression thus far this season, but had a very good second half here. Caused Alvaro Arbeloa nightmares with his movement. (7/10)

Luciano Vietto: Missed an excellent chance to level in the 81st minute, but two minutes later, he did equalise after poking home from close range. Caused problems with his pace. (7/10)

Jackson Martinez: Made a real difference after entering in the 64th minute. Set up Vietto's equaliser with a super low cross and could have won it in the latter stages. Very bright indeed. (7/10)

REAL MADRID

Goal

Keylor Navas: Made an outstanding save to deny Griezmann from the penalty spot, before pushing away a Martinez effort late on. Another excellent performance from the Costa Rican stopper. (8/10)

Defence

Dani Carvajal: Made a really good start to the match as he set up Benzema for the opener. Continued to cause problems down the right, but was forced off before the interval with an injury. (7/10)

Raphael Varane: Comfortably Real Madrid's best defender on the night. Headed everything away in the second period and was prepared to put his foot on the ball when needed. (7/10)

Sergio Ramos: Had a poor moment in the build-up to Atletico's penalty - first losing possession to Fernando Torres, before bringing Tiago to the ground. Mixed night for the Spaniard. (6/10)

Marcelo: Quite often one of Real Madrid's biggest threats going forward, but the Brazilian was forced to sit deep in the second half when Atletico had the ball. Solid enough performance. (6/10)

Midfield

Luka Modric: Was not too involved in the final third of the field, but used his appreciation of space to stem a flow of Atletico attacks. Also won a number of vital free kicks late on. (7/10)

Casemiro: Coming-of-age performance from the Brazilian, who was excellent in the middle of the park. Put out a number of fires and was also impressive in possession of the ball. (8/10)

Toni Kroos: As expected, the German international was tidy in possession, but he did not really make an impact in the final third. Rafael Benitez would have wanted a little bit more. (6/10)

Attack

Isco: Was once again deployed in a wide forward role and in truth, the Spaniard struggled to get into the game. Delivered one or two dangerous balls, but he was replaced in Real's second change. (6/10)

Karim Benzema: Headed Real Madrid in front in the first half and remained a threat for his 77 minutes on the field. Came as a surprise when he was replaced late on. (7/10)

Cristiano Ronaldo: Not really a night to remember for the Portuguese. Only really had a couple of half-chances in the first period. Found it difficult against Godin and Gimenez. (6/10)

Substitutes

Alvaro Arbeloa: Replaced Carvajal in the latter stages of the first half and really struggled after the break. Could not live with Atletico's pace and Martinez beat him easily for the equaliser. (5/10)

Gareth Bale: Introduced in the 66th minute on his return from injury, but looked a player that had just spent a number of weeks on the sidelines. Hardly had a touch at the Calderon. (6/10)

Mateo Kovacic: Was somewhat of a surprise that the Croatian did not start ahead of Casemiro in central midfield, but he formed an extra line of defence for the final 13 minutes. (6/10)
