Louis van Gaal expects Angel Di Maria to stay

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal believes that winger Angel Di Maria will stay at the club next season.

Louis van Gaal has said that he expects Angel Di Maria to remain at Manchester United next season amid speculation that the club's record signing could be ready to leave.

The Argentina international, who completed the switch from Real Madrid to Old Trafford for £59.7m last summer, has struggled for consistency since arriving in the Premier League and it has been reported that his Cheshire home is up for sale.

This has fuelled rumours that he will leave at the end of the season, but Van Gaal told BBC Sport: "I think he'll stay. His reaction and attitude after the defeat and the red card has been good.

"I am always compassionate about a player's needs and although I cannot say anything for definite about his future, I don't think he will move."

Di Maria will miss this afternoon's match against Tottenham Hotspur after picking up a red card in the FA Cup defeat to Arsenal earlier this week.
