Louis van Gaal: 'Jose Mourinho can have no complaints'

Louis van Gaal says that his former protege Jose Mourinho knows that his Manchester United team deserved their late equaliser in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has said that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho can have no complaints over the result following this evening's 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

Mourinho's side had looked on course for all three points after Didier Drogba's second-half opener, but Robin van Persie netted a stoppage-time equaliser to deny the Blues.

The dramatic leveller came from a free kick that Branislav Ivanovic conceded just before being sent off, prompting the Portuguese to criticise referee Phil Dowd for the dismissal.

However, Van Gaal says that his one-time protege at Barcelona cannot begrudge the Red Devils what he feels was a thoroughly deserved goal for their efforts.

"We deserved the goal. I think Jose Mourinho knows it, too," he told reporters.

"It is again the same song. We have created a lot of chances but we don't finish these chances and then Chelsea make the first goal and then it's much more difficult because Chelsea is playing on more possession and make the pitch big and we have to run and run."

Despite the result, Van Gaal's side still lie 10 points adrift of the West Londoners in the table.
