Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that Anthony Martial was "on the way to his best season" as a Manchester United player before the coronavirus pandemic halted the campaign.
The French forward has had a mixed time of things at Old Trafford since joining from Monaco in a deal worth up to £58m in 2015.
Martial was on target for United in their last Premier League outing before the enforced three-month break - a 2-0 win over Manchester City - to take his tally to 16 goals in all competitions this term.
That is just one short of his best ever return, achieved under Louis van Gaal in 2015-16, and Solskjaer has been impressed by the 24-year-old this season.
"Anthony's had a difficult season with injuries but he started the season really well and he's finishing off... well the season's not finished yet - but he did really well towards the end," Solskjaer told Premier League Productions.
"He's working hard and for me Anthony was on the way to his best season at Manchester United, so let's see if he finishes it off and kicks on again."
Martial is in contention to start United's first Premier League game back, which is a trip to Tottenham Hotspur on June 19.
