Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick is reportedly facing a player revolt over his comments about Jesse Lingard's absence for the FA Cup loss to Middlesbrough.

Manchester United interim coach Ralf Rangnick is reportedly facing backlash from inside the dressing room due to his recent comments over Jesse Lingard.

The German revealed that Lingard would not be in the squad to face Middlesbrough in the FA Cup after asking for time off to "clear his mind", to which the midfielder responded on social media by claiming he was dealing with a personal problem and had been advised to miss the game.

The saga comes not long after a similar miscommunication issue with Anthony Martial before his loan move to Sevilla, and Rangnick's comments have supposedly not gone down well at Old Trafford.

According to The Mirror, some Man United players are annoyed with Rangnick's openness to discuss such sensitive issues in press conferences, with senior figures feeling that talks should be done behind closed doors.

A source told the publication: "It isn't the United way to voice these issues in the media. This is a time to stick together, not go public with things that might cause division."

Anthony Elanga missed the crucial penalty as Man United bowed out to Chris Wilder's side on Friday evening, with the Red Devils now aiming to return to winning ways against Burnley on Tuesday.
