Michael Carrick: 'Top-four finish not good enough'

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick says that his side are targeting the Premier League title next season.

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has said that his side are targeting the Premier League title next season.

The Red Devils have endured a difficult campaign and look set to finish seventh in the table, which will rule them out of a spot in Europe.

Carrick has admitted that while it is important they qualify for the Champions League with a place in the top four next year, a club of their stature must be challenging for trophies.

"There is no way we are settling for top four. That is not something we do here," he told Sky Sports News.

"We can't celebrate getting into the top four, that's not worth celebrating. We want to be challenging right at the top.

"I am not saying we are going to win the league next season but that is what our goal is and anything less is not worth thinking about."

United have lost 12 games in the league this season, including seven defeats at Old Trafford.
