Hearts defender Aaron Hickey reportedly emerges as a potential transfer target for Premier League outfit Southampton.

Southampton are reportedly ready to rival Manchester City in the race to sign Hearts defender Aaron Hickey.

Despite being just 17 years of age, Hickey has already established himself as a first-team player at the Scottish Premiership club.

City have been assessing the progression of the left-back ahead of potentially making an official approach during the January window.

However, according to the Daily Record, Southampton are also considering a move for the teenager as Ralph Hasenhuttl continues to prioritise youth over experience.

Hickey, who does not turn 18 until New Year's Day, has already made 13 appearances in the senior ranks.
