Pep Guardiola insists that Manchester City cannot be compared to Barcelona just yet due to the gulf in trophy wins.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has claimed that his team are nowhere near a match for Barcelona.

The Spaniard could potentially guide the North-West outfit to a treble of trophies this season as they already have the EFL Cup in the bag.

The club are just four wins away from securing the Premier League title, and they can grab a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League this evening.

City take on Basel in the second leg of their last-16 tie at the Etihad Stadium, heading into the clash with a 4-0 advantage.

Ahead of the match, when asked by reporters in his pre-match press conference if his team were now a match for Barcelona, Guardiola said: "No, because it is completely different. Their players won a lot in the past, we are new here.

"Now we can say we won one title but it is not good to compare with that team. They dominated the last decade with different managers, different players. Every season they won a lot of things.

"We just won the first title. To think about joining these kind of teams you have to be there a long time, many years."

Guardiola won 14 trophies during his four-year spell in charge of the Catalan giants.
