Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany claims that his side can benefit from being underdogs against Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has claimed that his side can benefit from being the underdogs in Wednesday's Champions League encounter with Real Madrid.

The Blues, who currently sit at the bottom of Group D, must beat the Spanish champions at the Etihad Stadium to give themselves a chance of reaching the next round.

However, Kompany believes that his teammates could be liberated against a side who will be expected to win.

"There are not many games when we are not favourites," said the Belgian. "This will be one of those games when we can take more positives out of it than negatives."

City were minutes away from recording an historic win against Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in September before late goals from Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo earned the hosts the victory.
