Liverpool are reportedly looking to tie down Roberto Firmino to a deal that will keep him at the club for the rest of his playing career.

Liverpool are reportedly keen to tie down Roberto Firmino to a new deal that will keep him with the club for the rest of his playing career.

The 26-year-old has two years remaining on his existing contract with the Reds, signed when he moved from Hoffenheim in July 2015 in a £29m deal.

Last weekend Jurgen Klopp's side reluctantly lost Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in a deal worth a reported £142m and, according to The Telegraph, they are now keen to tie down his Brazil teammate Firmino for the long term in order to ward off any similar big-money approaches.

The newspaper claims that the club will use the cash from Coutinho's sale not only to strengthen with new recruits but also to offer improved financial terms for their existing top stars.

Yesterday Firmino, who has 15 goals for Liverpool in all competitions so far this season, penned a tribute to the departed Coutinho on social media, describing him as his "magical brother" and saying that the club is "no longer the same".
