Liverpool reject Swansea City loan bid for Joe Allen

Liverpool reject an approach from Swansea City over the possibility of bringing Joe Allen back to the Liberty Stadium on loan until the end of the season.

Liverpool have rejected Swansea City's enquiry over a possible loan move for Joe Allen until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old joined Liverpool from Swansea for £15m in August 2012 but has struggled to hold down a regular first-team spot at Anfield, making only one Premier League start under Jurgen Klopp.

That alerted Swansea to the possibility of bringing the Wales international back to the Liberty Stadium, but Liverpool have rejected the struggling club's approach.

Klopp is thought to be keen on keeping Allen in his squad in order to give them strength in depth, with the Reds still in all four competitions this season.

Swansea, meanwhile, are understood to be interested in bolstering their midfield ranks after selling Jonjo Shelvey to Newcastle United for £12m earlier this month.

Allen has scored in each of his last two appearances for Liverpool, rescuing a late point against Arsenal before opening the scoring in their FA Cup replay with Exeter City on Wednesday night.
