Lazar Markovic blames Brendan Rodgers for Liverpool exit

Lazar Markovic reveals that the breakdown in his relationship with former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers led to his departure from the club.

Lazar Markovic has revealed that he left Liverpool last summer because his relationship with former manager Brendan Rodgers broke down.

The Serbian winger, who joined the Merseyside outfit for £20m from Benfica in 2014, made 34 appearances in his first season at Anfield but fell down the pecking order at the beginning of the current campaign.

The 21-year-old, who is now on loan at Turkish outfit Fenerbahce, has claimed that Rodgers "changed" which convinced him to move elsewhere.

"I had no problem with Brendan Rodgers and we had a bond until, for some reason that remains a mystery to me, he changed," Turkish newspaper Fanatik quotes Markovic as saying.

"He stopped playing me and then at the start of the season he didn't even include me in the squad, and nobody explained to me what was going on or what his plans were, so I decided to leave."

Rodgers was sacked by Liverpool in October and later replaced with Jurgen Klopp.
