Lucas says that Liverpool need to start beating league minnows if they are to compete for a top-four finish.

Brazilian midfielder Lucas has said that Liverpool need to start winning games against league minnows if they are to compete for a top-four finish.

The Reds have dropped points to the likes of Norwich, Stoke and Swansea so far this season.

Lucas believes that Liverpool need to start playing every game as though they are taking on the likes of Chelsea, who they beat 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

"We've beaten Chelsea and Arsenal away and drawn at home to Manchester United but dropped points at home to Sunderland, Norwich and Swansea," Lucas said. "If we approach every game like we approached the Chelsea game, we would be in a much better position than we are.

"We had to get three points on Sunday because we'd dropped them at home to Swansea. When we are away, the first thing we do is defend very well. We can soak up the pressure and we are always dangerous on the counter-attack, as we showed against Chelsea.

"But when we're playing teams that maybe aren't considered among the top clubs, we need to be on the attack all the time and always looking to score goals. The aim now is to find out the way to play at home."

Liverpool are currently sixth in the Premier League with 22 points from 12 games.
