Jurgen Klopp coy on Mamadou Sakho legal action

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp refuses to comment on any potential legal action Mamadou Sakho may take after being ruled out for the closing months of last season.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has refused to weigh in on the debate surrounding Mamadou Sakho's failed drugs test.

The 26-year-old was forced to miss the closing stages of the season - including the Europa League final and selection for Euro 2016 - after testing positive for a fat-burning substance following a match against Manchester United in March.

However, UEFA has since dismissed proceedings against the France international after ruling that the substance should not have been on its banned list, and Sakho is reportedly considering taking legal action against the governing body.

"I cannot say too much as a manager. I don't know exactly what will happen now from Mama's side or UEFA's side," Klopp told reporters.

"But as a human being I can say it's a sad story. He didn't play now for three-and-a-half months. That's obviously not really cool but we all know that doping is a very serious thing and we cannot have that.

"But I am sure they tried to do the right thing. Others have to talk about this because I don't know what I am allowed or able to say. That's one thing and the other is that Mama is currently injured."

Sakho is expected to miss the start of the new season with an Achilles injury.
