Philippe Coutinho believes that fellow Brazil star Neymar and former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah of Egypt will shine at this summer's World Cup in Russia.

Brazil attacker Philippe Coutinho has tipped compatriot Neymar and former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah to shine at this summer's World Cup.

Neymar, 26, is the world's most expensive player, having moved to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona for £198m last summer, and scored 28 goals in just 30 games for PSG last term.

Egypt talisman Salah, meanwhile, has enjoyed a superb debut season at Anfield, winning the Golden Boot and several individual awards, although the 25-year-old is nursing a dislocated shoulder.

Barca forward Lionel Messi and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo have been deemed the best players in the world over the last 10 years, but Coutinho believes that Neymar and Salah will be next in line.

"It feels like the right moment for someone to take their chance at this World Cup," Coutinho told The Mirror.

"Messi and Ronaldo have been up there on their own for so many years. I think it may be time for other players to aspire to be the best in the world – and the best at this World Cup, too.

"For me, Salah and Neymar have serious chances to do that. It depends on how the tournament goes, of course, but they have the talent to do it. Those are the players I would pick out."

The 21st instalment of the World Cup will be held in Russia from June 14 to July 15.
