Late East Stirlingshire goal seals win over Elgin City

A late goal from Kevin Nesbit hands East Stirlingshire a 2-1 win over Elgin City in Scottish League Two.

East Stirlingshire scored in stoppage time to secure a 2-1 win over Elgin City in Scottish League Two this evening, despite falling behind just a few minutes into the tie at Borough Briggs.

The hosts were ahead just four minutes into the match when Daniel Moore curled the ball in from a corner, leaving Shane Sutherland to head it into the top corner.

Ally Gilchrist could have doubled their advantage just a few minutes later from another set piece, but his header was just held by the keeper.

The visitors started to see more of the ball as the first half progressed though, and were able to get back on level terms with a little over half an hour on the clock as Kevin Nesbit curled the ball in for David McKenna to nod into the bottom of the net.

Elgin tried to make another quick start once the action got back underway, but Jamie Reid saw his low strike saved after Sutherland and Darryl McHardy had both fired wide.

After a quiet spell, the visitors started to look the more likely, but Elgin defended hard to stop East Stirlingshire capitalising from a string of corners.

The persistence paid off for East Stirlingshire in the final minute of the match though as McKenna returned the favour to Nesbit, picking him out with a through-ball to leave the creator of the first goal to fire in one of his own.

Sutherland had a chance to level the scores deep into stoppage time, but his last-gasp long-range effort was watched all the way by the keeper.

The result moves East Stirlingshire up to fifth in the table, while Elgin stay seventh.
