A report claims that Chelsea may end their interest in Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani as he is reluctant to take a pay cut.

Chelsea's pursuit of Edinson Cavani is reportedly at risk of being scuppered by the Paris Saint-Germain striker's wage demands.

Cavani has handed in a transfer request at the Parc des Princes after slipping down the pecking order following the arrival of Mauro Icardi last summer.

Speaking on Monday, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard admitted that he is a fan of Cavani and hinted that his side are in the running to sign the Uruguay international.

Despite being out of contract in less than six months' time, PSG are believed to be holding out for a £15m fee for Cavani, who is also wanted by Atletico Madrid.

However, the Evening Standard suggests that it is the player's wages that are proving to be the biggest stumbling block, with the 32-year-old reluctant to take a wage cut from his current salary.

PSG's all-time leading goalscorer is currently on in excess of £360,000 a week, it is claimed, and he will also demand a hefty signing-on fee.
