Preview: Burton Albion vs. Sheffield Wednesday - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's League One clash between Burton Albion and Sheffield Wednesday, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Sheffield Wednesday will aim to collect a third consecutive victory when they travel to the Pirelli Stadium for a League One clash with Burton Albion.

The Brewers, who sit in 10th position, have also fared well of late after picking up 11 points from their last six league games.

After suffering a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Milton Keynes Dons, the Brewers responded with a victory last weekend when they travelled to Sincil Bank to face Lincoln City.

Despite falling behind courtesy of a John Marquis strike, Burton Albion returned home with all three points after Joe Powell and Sam Hughes turned the game on its head to give Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's side a 2-1 victory.

Having lost just once in their previous six matches, the Brewers now have the opportunity to claim back-to-back wins this weekend.

In their last home outing, they failed to score for only the second time at home in the league this term after the MK Dons backline kept the Brewers at bay.

If the hosts are to pick up a positive result on Saturday, their backline needs to be on high alert from the first whistle as Hasselbaink's men have conceded eight of their 15 home league goals this season inside the opening half-hour.

Sheffield Wednesday's quest for a playoff place is picking up speed with the Owls winning their previous two league games.

Last weekend, Darren Moore's troops welcomed Ipswich Town to Hillsborough, and it was the hosts who prevailed thanks to Marvin Johnson's sixth-minute effort.

Unlike Saturday's opponents, Sheffield Wednesday returned to action in midweek, with George Byers and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing netting to give their side a 2-0 home victory over Morecambe.

Following consecutive home fixtures, the Owls will now head on the road and after losing their last three away matches, the visitors may be slightly pessimistic of their chances at the weekend.

In those three away games, they conceded nine goals, while only scoring two of their own, but Moore will be hoping that recent home victories can translate into away day success.

Team News

The Brewers lost their topscorer during the week as Daniel Jebbison was recalled from his loan spell by Sheffield United.

After signing on loan from Manchester United, Matej Kovar could be given his Burton Albion debut on Saturday.

Christian Saydee is also another new addition after joining on loan from Bournemouth and the forward could also come into the starting lineup for the weekend contest.

As for Sheffield Wednesday, they have a number of injury absentees including Dominic Iorfa, Chey Dunkley and Dennis Adeniran.

Harlee Dean and Josh Windass both picked up injuries in midweek and are both expected to miss the weekend encounter.

There is also some doubt about the availability of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, who picked up a knock in the Morecambe victory.

Burton Albion possible starting lineup:
Kovar; Hughes, Brayford, Oshilaja; Hamer, Gilligan, Powell, Shaughnessy, Kokolo; Saydee, Ahadme

Sheffield Wednesday possible starting lineup:
Peacock-Farrell; Palmer, Storey, Hutchinson; Mendez-Laing, Dele-Bashiru, Byers, Bannan, Johnson; Berahino, Kamberi

We say: Burton Albion 2-2 Sheffield Wednesday

Saturday's contest represents the first meeting between the two sides since January 2018, and with the teams separated by just two places in the league, we think that they could cancel each other out.
