Ottmar Hitzfeld is not convinced that Robert Lewandowski is the sort of player Pep Guardiola will want at Bayern Munich.

Former Bayern Munich and current Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld has questioned whether incoming manager Pep Guardiola will want Robert Lewandowski at the club.

Bayern have been strongly linked with a summer move for the Borussia Dortmund striker, but Hitzfeld is not convinced that Lewandowski is the sort of player the Spaniard likes.

He also warned that expectations will be incredibly high on the former Barcelona coach should Bayern win the treble with Jupp Heynckes this season.

"The issue of Lewandowski brings controversy in Munich," Bild quotes Hitzfeld as saying.

"If he arrives, there will definitely a striker too many. Guardiola preferred a system without a centre-forward, but with small, agile strikers.

"The expectations are rising exponentially in Munich. The fans expect him to not only win, but also to bring dream football to the city. If Heynckes now wins the treble, it will be difficult for Guardiola as the expectations will be even higher."

Lewandowski has struck 19 times in 31 appearances for Dortmund this season.
