Luca Toni announces retirement plans

Hellas Verona striker Luca Toni, who won the World Cup with Italy 10 years ago, says that he will retire after the weekend's match against Juventus.

Experienced centre-forward Luca Toni has confirmed that he will retire after Hellas Verona's Serie A clash against champions Juventus on Sunday evening.

The 38-year-old, who won the World Cup with Italy in 2006, has turned out for 16 different clubs during his career.

He was most successful with Bayern Munich, whom he helped to win two Bundesliga titles and a further two DFB-Pokal trophies.

Last season was also a memorable one for the frontman as he became the oldest ever player to win the Capocannoniere - an award given to the footballer that scores the most goals in Italian football's top flight over the course of a campaign.

In total, Toni has scored 303 goals in 674 club appearances, with a further 16 goals being scored from his 47 international caps.
