Franz Beckenbauer believes that Borussia Dortmund midfielders Mario Gotze and Marco Reus are the best midfield duo in the world.

German legend Franz Beckenbauer has claimed that Borussia Dortmund's Mario Gotze and Marco Reus have forged the best midfield partnership in the world.

The 67-year-old believes that the duo are better than Barcelona midfielders Xavi and Andres Iniesta and describes them as "classic".

"At Barcelona Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Xavi are building a triangle," he told Bild.

"But as a classic duo there is nobody better than the prolific Reus and Gotze. How they split Ajax in the Champions League impressed me. I hope they do not succeed in Munich."

Dortmund are away at Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
