Bastia draw confirms Caen Ligue 1 survival

Caen avoid relegation from Ligue 1 after drawing 1-1 with mid-table Bastia.

Caen have avoided relegation from Ligue 1 after a 1-1 draw away to Bastia confirmed their status in the French top flight.

Sloan Privat gave the visitors a brief lead before the Corsicans battled back with a Floyd Ayite goal to earn a point.

Caen were almost ahead inside the opening 10 minutes when Privat has an early shot blocked before Bengali-Fode Koita's effort was saved by Alphonse Areola.

Gent loanee Privat did put his side in front with a header from six yards out after a pinpoint Nicolas Benezet cross.

However, that lead lasted less than two minutes as Gael Danic delivered for Ayite to head home for the hosts.

Lenny Nangis almost restored Caen's lead before half time as his strike was inches away from creeping inside of the right-hand post.

Ayite came close to a second goal when his shot midway through the second period was saved, but both sides were forced to settle for a point as Caen avoided the drop to Ligue 2.
