Neymar: 'I didn't leave Barcelona to become the star at Paris Saint-Germain'

New Paris Saint-Germain signing Neymar says that he did not leave Barcelona to become a "star" player in his own right.

Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar has said that he has not joined the Ligue 1 side to become the "star" man.

On Thursday night, PSG announced that Neymar had left Barcelona in a world record move after the French club met the attacker's release clause of £198.6m.

Ending a glittering spell with Barcelona has led to questions being asked about Neymar's motivations, but he has insisted that he has not left the Catalan giants to try to become the best player in the world.

The 25-year-old told reporters: "This is for ambition, they have a similar ambition to mine. I want something bigger, a bigger challenge, and my heart made that decision and made me follow. That is why I am here. I want to give my best to help the club win trophies.

"I wanted to come to Paris and it was only linked to finding a new challenge. It is not because I was not THE star at Barcelona, I fitted in very well there. This is not what I am looking for here. PSG deserve trophies and I will have new trophies, this is what motivates me, I want to dream bigger."

During his four years at Camp Nou, Neymar netted 103 goals in 182 appearances in all competitions.
