Fernando Torres has firmly denied suggestions that he will look to leave Atletico Madrid at the start of next month.

The 33-year-old has only started one La Liga match for Atletico this season, and it had widely been claimed that the forward would seek pastures new in the January transfer window.

Torres's contract at the Wanda Metropolitano will expire next summer, but the former Liverpool and Chelsea striker has insisted that he wants 'many more seasons' with the Madrid club.

"I hope this will not be my last season at the club, I want many more," Torres told Diario AS. "I'm under contract here and my only aim at the moment is to continue here, and the motivation that it may be my last game for the club drives me on – I need to play each game like it is my last but I'm not going to through in the towel.

"My spell here hasn't been a gimmick and I've had to work for everything and even though I've scored goals, it hasn't been enough alone to guarantee me a start.

"I'm at the club due to my own performances and hard work, and I want to maintain this level to ensure I keep getting more minutes and more opportunities."

Torres's chances at Atletico will be further limited when Diego Costa becomes available for selection next month.
