Arsenal have reportedly made an official loan approach for Shakhtar Donetsk defender Mykola Matviyenko.
Having lost Calum Chambers for the rest of the season due to a serious knee injury, Mikel Arteta is targeting a fresh face for his backline before the end of the month.
Throughout this week, the Gunners have been linked with Matviyenko, who impressed Arteta during Manchester City's games with Shakhtar earlier in the campaign.
According to Sky Sports News, the Premier League outfit want to secure the services of the 23-year-old on a temporary basis, ahead of a permanent deal in the summer.
However, despite the Ukraine international having less than 18 months left on his contract, Shakhtar are pushing for a £30m fee.
Matviyenko is said to be keen on sealing a switch to the Emirates Stadium.
