Arsene Wenger: 'Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could prove to be a bargain'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger suggests that new striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could prove to be a bargain, having marked his debut for the club with a goal.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has suggested that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could prove to be a bargain following his goalscoring debut against Everton this evening.

Aubameyang joined the Gunners for a club-record fee thought to be around £56m on deadline day and was thrown straight into the starting lineup by Wenger as the Toffees visited the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

The Gabon international marked his Arsenal debut with a goal too, and Wenger was pleased with both his contribution and that of fellow January signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who helped himself to three assists in the 5-1 victory.

"It's a reasonable price, I think so yes. That quality of striker, on today's market, it's a very good price. I feel the quality of his movement was excellent. The quality of his finishing looks excellent. He is not completely at his best physically and still has work to do in that respect," Wenger told reporters at his post-match press conference.

"[Mkhitaryan] is a good link player and he works very hard as well. Overall, I think he looked well-accepted by the rest of the team and was understanding very well how we want to play. I can say is that it was a convincing debut that shows that he has the level to play with us.

"In the first half we were quick, mobile, technically very sharp and we finished very well as well. Overall, two players integrated well into our game and they looked as if they had played for us forever. They have similar qualities to what our game is about. Technically, they are good. They are quick and overall it was a first convincing performance."

Aaron Ramsey also scored his first career hat-trick at the Emirates as Arsenal closed the gap on the top four to five points.
