Wolves vs. Arsenal: Bizarre feat on line in Premier League fixture at Molineux

History to repeat itself three times? Bizarre feat on line in Wolves, Arsenal game

A bizarre feat could occur for a third time when Wolverhampton Wanderers play host to Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Wolverhampton Wanderers will be bidding to avoid being on the receiving end of a bizarre piece of history when they face Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.

Vitor Pereira's side head into the game at Molineux only sitting outside of the Premier League relegation zone on goal difference.

That is despite Wolves suffering defeat in their last three top-flight fixtures, conceding three goals against each of Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United and Chelsea.

A brutal schedule against teams battling for Champions League qualification continues this weekend as they welcome the Gunners to their West Midlands home.

Although Wolves are in desperate need of a morale-boosting success, they are at risk of ending a 43-year-old streak and being on the wrong end of an unusual occurrence in the process.

What will be achieved with Arsenal win?

For the first time since 1982 and for only the third time in their history, Wolves could lose four successive league matches at the beginning of a calendar year.

Bizarrely, the fourth defeats inflicted on them on both previous occasions was by Arsenal, further stacking the deck in the North Londoners favour.

Arsenal have prevailed in the last seven Premier League encounters between the two sides and Wolves have recorded victories in home games against this opponent just twice across the last 15 contests.

Furthermore, Arsenal have won eight of their 10 fixtures at Molineux during the Premier League era, as well as incredibly scoring in their last 34 fixtures against Wolves in all competitions.

At the same time that Arsenal have scored 10 times from corners in this season's Premier League, Wolves have conceded 19 times from set pieces.

Wolves have also succumbed in 18 of their last 20 fixtures when facing teams in the top two of the Premier League table.

Any hope for Wolves?

The most encouragement that Wolves can take ahead of this match is Arsenal failing to keep a clean sheet in an away Premier League fixture in nine outings.

William Saliba is a fitness doubt for this game, which could also bode well for Wolves. Arsenal have only kept two clean sheets in 13 games without the Frenchman deployed in the middle of their backline.
