Arsene Wenger admits he will play a fringe side in tomorrow's Carling Cup tie at Manchester City, naming some of his starting lineup in the process.

Arsene Wenger has said that he will field a fringe side in tomorrow's Carling Cup quarter-final despite the trip to Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Wenger has a history of picking a young side in the competition and has seen recent success with the formula, reaching last year's final before losing out to Birmingham City.

Speaking to Arsenal Player, the Frenchman revealed some of the fringe players that will be starting at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow. He said: "I believe that some players are on the fringe of being really limited. I will rest some players, but I still want to play a team that has a chance to win the game.

"Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Emmanuel Frimpong will play, but I consider them to be first-team players.

"Park [Chu-Young] is adapting to the level he is facing here and he has another opportunity against Manchester City tomorrow night to show that he can do it."

The Frenchman insisted that in spite of the weaker starting lineup, his side has every chance of progressing to the last four of the competition.

"We want to win the match and get through. Therefore, we will try to give absolutely everything," added the 62-year-old.

"It is important for the whole club to show our strengths again."

The Gunners have been on form recently, steadily moving up the Premier League after their indifferent start. They currently lie seventh.
