Arsene Wenger: 'Taking Jack Wilshere to Euro 2016 is not a gamble'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that it would not be a "gamble" for England to take Jack Wilshere to Euro 2016.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that it would not be a "gamble" if England manager Roy Hodgson included Jack Wilshere in the squad for this summer's European Championships.

The midfielder has not played at all this season because of a broken leg, but has stepped up his recovery by playing in three games for the Under-21s over the last few weeks.

Wenger recently claimed that Wilshere could be available to play in Sunday's game against Sunderland.

Despite Wilshere's lack of game time, Wenger believes that the midfielder would be worthy of a space in England's 23-man squad.

"Yes [Wilshere will be fit for the Euros] because he has played three [Under-21] games already," Wenger told reporters in Wednesday's press conference. "The European Championship starts on June 10 and until then it is nearly two months.

"If you look at his fitness now, in two months he should be perfectly fit. If he has no setbacks it would not be a gamble."

Hodgson will name his 23-man squad on May 12.
