British Cycling President Brian Cookson says that he does not want to see Lance Armstrong return to the sport if he admits to the doping evidence against him.

British Cycling President Brian Cookson has insisted that disgraced American cyclist Lance Armstrong should not be allowed to return to the sport if he admits to doping.

The 41-year-old, who was stripped of his record seven Tour de France titles, will reportedly admit to taking performance-enhancing drugs throughout his career in a "no-holds-barred" interview with Oprah Winfrey.

When asked if the cyclist should be allowed to return to the sport, Cookson told the Today Programme: "No I think what Lance Armstrong has done has tarnished my sport so much, that I don't want to see him back in any sport.

"If the tearful confession allows him to look himself in the eye then fair enough but I don't want to see him back in my sport and I think any sport would feel the same."

Armstrong was given a lifetime ban from cycling following the damning evidence.
