Carmelo Anthony has said that he would like to test free agency at the end of the coming season.
The New York Knicks small forward is in the final year of his contract with the team.
The 29-year-old told New York Observer: "I want to be a free agent. I think everybody in the NBA dreams to be a free agent at least one time in their career. It's like you have an evaluation period, you know.
"It's like if I'm in the gym and I have all the coaches, all the owners, all the GMs come into the gym and just evaluate everything I do. So yes, I want that experience.
"Does that mean I'm not coming back to New York, not at all. It doesn't mean that just because somebody wants to be that that they're going to leave. Me leaving would never came across in my mind. It was just an experience that I thought would be an experience I'd want to experience."
Anthony averaged 28.7 points per game last season.
