United States skier Stacey Cook has revealed that she was extremely disappointed with her performance in the downhill event at the Winter Olympics.

The 29-year-old was touted to compete for a medal in Sochi in the event, but failed to live up to the expectations as she finished 17th, nearly two seconds off the pace.

Cook told reporters: "This is what you live for, the Olympics. It's definitely a disappointment

"I wouldn't take anything back. I know I've done all the right things over the past decade. I've worked so hard for so long and sometimes it's not enough."

Cook will finish her Games by competing in the super-g on Saturday.
