Team GB ski coach Pat Sharples: 'James Woods is still a contender'

Great Britain freestyle skiing coach Pat Sharples believes that James Woods can still medal in the slopestyle despite sustaining a hip injury during practice.

Great Britain freestyle skiing coach Pat Sharples is confident that James Woods can compete for a medal in the slopestyle despite his injury.

The 22-year-old sustained a hip injury last week after crashing during a practice run, leaving Woods less than 100% for the event.

Sharples told BBC Sport: "It's been the highest standard of slopestyle skiing I have ever seen, but I believe he can still be a contender [for a medal]."

Woods will get his campaign underway in the slopestyle later today.
