Injured Justyna Kowalczyk takes Olympic cross-country gold

Polish cross-country skier Justyna Kowalczyk has won the women's 10km classical race at the Winter Olympic Games, despite competing with a fractured foot.

Poland's Justyna Kowalczyk has won the women's cross-country 10km classical race at Sochi 2014, despite skiing with a fractured foot.

Kowalczyk eased to the title, leading from the first minute and only increasing her lead as the race continued.

Ending in a time of 28:17.80, she beat Sweden's silver medallist Charlotte Kalla by a comfortable margin of 18.4s. A further 10 seconds behind, Norway's Therese Johaug took bronze.

Kowalczyk posted a photo of an X-ray on her Facebook page this week showing a small fracture which she had sustained in training for the event.

Great Britain's Posy Musgrave came home in 66th position, finishing eight minutes behind Kowalczyk in a time of 36:18.50.
