Team GB's David Hay: 'To win gold you have to beat Canada'

Women's curling coach David Hay says that Team GB need to bring their best game if they are to beat Canada in Wednesday's Olympic semi-final.

Great Britain curling team leader David Hay has stated that Canada were always going to be the team to beat at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

Hay was speaking after Eve Muirhead's team lost to Denmark on Monday, a result which means that they will have to face the unbeaten Canadians for a place in the final on Wednesday.

He told TeamGB.com: "If you want to win the gold medal you've got to beat Canada at some point.

"We need to play a good game. We had a shot to beat them in the round robin and we didn't quite make it. We just need to bring our best game.

"If you'd offered us a semi-final place ten days ago we would have grabbed it with both hands."

Canada won all nine of their round robin matches, while Team GB managed five wins and four losses.
