Great Britain speed skater Jon Eley has expressed his disappointment at 'getting beat' in today's Olympic 1,000m heats, claiming that the euphoria of carrying the nation's flag at the Sochi opening ceremony "feels like a long time ago".
Eley, along with fellow British skater Richard Shoebridge, came fourth in their respective heats when a top-two finish was needed to progress.
The Team GB flagbearer, speaking of his performance, told reporters: "It was a good run out, a good taste of the atmosphere and good to learn a bit more about the ice in the competition environment but it is always disappointing to get beat.
"Carrying the flag feels like a long time ago now. I just keep ticking over the training maybe have a day off tomorrow, recover from this and then switch the mind to the 500m.
"There is a bit more planning to go in with the coach and looking at some videos but no more hard training, just a few small little mental things."
Fellow Team GB short track speed skaters Jack Whelbourne and Charlotte Gilmartin also failed to progress to the finals of their respective events.
