Elise Christie: 'I considered quitting the Games'

Great Britain speed skater Elise Christie reveals that she considered quitting the Winter Olympics after being stripped of a silver medal and disqualified in two of her three events.

Great Britain speed skater Elise Christie has revealed that she almost quit the 2014 Winter Olympics after a miserable start to her Games.

The 23-year-old was stripped of a silver medal in the 500m and was also disqualified from the 1,500m, leading to her becoming the victim of cyber-bullying.

However, she responded in perfect fashion as she qualified for the quarter-finals of the 1,000m with ease.

She told The Guardian: "I was considering not getting back on and the support had persuaded me to get back up and do it. I know DQs come with short-track and I have to accept that but I felt like I had a lot of people against me.

"My main worry was the next Olympics being in Korea and I was really stressed about that but now I have the whole of Britain behind me that's gone. I'm coming back up now."

Christie will resume her campaign in the 1,000m on Friday.
