Former Manchester City chief executive Garry Cook has been unveiled as the new executive vice-president and managing director of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Cook quit his role at City last year after allegations that he poked fun at the illness of defender Nedum Onuoha's mother.

He has now landed a senior role at the largest mixed martial arts company in the world, however, and was quick to express his delight at the appointment.

"I am absolutely delighted to be joining the UFC," said Cook.

"Mixed martial arts is one of the most popular sports globally and to be working in such a dynamic and exciting industry, with the UFC's talented, passionate and committed staff and athletes, is an honour.

"I look forward to being a part of the team as they continue to grow internationally."

Twenty-two UFC athletes took to the scales in Nottingham today for the weigh-in ahead of this weekend's event.
